Beach Clean Up for the Hatchlings!

Beach Clean Up for the Hatchlings!

SEA LIFE Mooloolaba along with Turtle Care and Reef Check Australia will join forces to clean up the beaches here on the coast prior to the arrival of new turtle hatchlings.

During the first few years of their life, Sea Turtle hatchlings are pelagic and feed on the surface of the ocean. Small hard floating plastics are often mistaken for food and consumed by hatchlings and post hatchling turtles off the Sunshine Coast beaches which can potentially be fatal for hatchlings.

SEA LIFE Mooloolaba has taken a proactive role in the rescue, rehabilitation and release of marine turtles since 1989 to ensure that they are conserved and sustained for future generations.

There are many reasons why turtles are being rehabilitated here at SEA LIFE Mooloolaba. The majority of which are human related impacts including eating rubbish particularly plastics which cause ‘floating syndrome’, boat strikes and entanglements by discarded fishing equipment and crab pots.

Help prevent this from happening and come along and support the beach clean-up on the 1st of February at La Balsa Park at 7.30am. More information and other meeting points can be found here.

We hope to see you there!
